Membership in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is by invitation only. It is a lifelong commitment and as part of our sisterhood, there are myriad opportunities for service and networking. Our members are pioneers and leaders at various stages of their careers who strive for excellence in their chosen professions. If you are a woman interested in service and committed to excellence and leadership, the Westchester Alumnae chapter may be right for you.
In addition to our international service activities, we sponsor and/or participate in various local programs and charity events including:
Operation Big Book Bag – providing book bags and schools supplies to students and families in need.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (American Cancer Society) – to date we’ve raised over $10,000 for this worthy cause.
Story Hour at The Mt. Vernon Public Library – we encourage children’s literacy; children are entertained by members of NPHC organizations who read exciting excerpts of children's books. Each child receives a complimentary book courtesy of the sorority and participating partners.
Youth Symposium – members conduct life skills workshops for high school students and encourage camaraderie and discussion between the generations.
High School Step Competition – area schools compete for the championship and part of the proceeds are donated to the winning school’s step team.
Leadership Development - attending organization meetings, workshops and conferences; serving as local, regional and national officers or committee chairs.
Food and Clothing donations to community based organizations (CBOs) - each year we donate food to the food pantries, and clothing to area CBOs in need.
Fundraising for our annual scholarships to area youth who excel in their studies.
